Hello my people.

My name is SuNom, and I am the founder and creative director behind DAWOMI, a brand that I have been working on for the past two years of my life. December 8, 2025, is a significant day for this brand as I officially introduce it to the world.

I founded DAWOMI as a bridge between where I was born, Nigeria and where I was raised, the UK. DAWOMI is reflective of my rich African roots and the diversity of my British upbringing.

The name DAWOMI orignates from the Hyam word "dawo," meaning mother. A term of endearment that I have heard countless times, which I have repurposed to mean "my carer" or "my protector." At its core, DAWOMI exists to honour the preservation of our unique cultures and, in doing so, celebrate diversity.

Growing up between two cultures, I experienced a sense of uncertainity around my identity. However, within that were moments of discovery that helped shape my perspective. Learning about the ancient Nok Terracotta sculptures (artefacts of profound cultural, historicanl and artistic significance) originating from the same region I and my family are from became a turning point, igniting feelings of pride and possibility.

Since then, I have been on a journey to create that same feeling in others, one that inspires and acts as a reminder of the power, beauty and value in our heritage. DAWOMI was born from that purpose.

I am thankful to have been rasied the way I was, my parents ensured that I remained connected to my heritage, maintaining traditional values. From today, DAWOMI stands as an open invitation to anyone who finds strength in the connections that they have to their cultures and communities to do the same.
